GIGANTIC HUMAN SKELETON FOUND

The said Gigantic human skeleton was found at different locations, seven separate gravesites -- with each gravesite providing compelling skeletal evidence for the historical existence of human giants.

MEGA PLANET Discovered

Astronomers have discovered a new type of rocky planet beyond the solar system that weighs more than 17 times as much as Earth while being just over twice the size, scientists said on Monday.
The so-called "mega-Earth" circles a very old star called Kepler-10, which is located about 560 light-years away from Earth in the constellation Draco.
The discovery, announced at the American Astronomical Society meeting in Boston, was a surprise since planets that big were believed to be mostly gas, not solid rocky bodies like Earth or Mars, said physicist Dimitar Sasselov, director of the Harvard Origins of Life Initiative.
Scientists do not yet understand how the planet, known as Kepler-10c, formed. It has a diameter of about 18,000 miles (29,000 km), 2.3 times greater than Earth's.
"A mega-Earth is a lot of solids concentrated in the same place without any gas. That is a problem because our understanding for how planets form requires the solids to get together in an environment where almost 99 percent of the mass ... is hydrogen and helium," Sasselov told reporters at a press conference.
Smaller solid bodies, like Earth or Mars, which are believed to form from leftover materials, take less time to pull themselves together. With a longer incubation time, large planets should gather up massive amounts of gas in the process – or so scientists thought.
However, mega-Earths formed, the discovery of another type of rocky world bodes well in the search for life beyond Earth, Sasselov added.
"As far as we know - and we know very little about origins of life - we think the emergence of life from geochemistry," occurs on solid planets, Sasselov said.

Largest Yellow Star discovered, 1300 times bigger than the sun

The largest yellow star ever observed in our galaxy has been discovered.
An international team of astronomers found the yellow hypergiant star 12-thousand light years away from Earth.
The yellow star,... the HR 5171 A,... is 13-hundred times the diameter of the Sun,... and one million times brighter.
One of the astronomers said their observations show that the star has a binary partner... and the two stars are so close that the system resembles a "gigantic peanut."
The team used the European Southern Observatory in Chile's Very Large Telescope Interferometer to make the observations.
The yellow star is now among the ten largest stars ever discovered,... and astronomers estimate that it is 50-percent larger than the famous red supergiant Betelguese.
The findings will be published in the journal Astronomy & Astrophysics.

World's oldest person offers tips for a long life

Okawa (pictured above, celebrating her 115th birthday in 2013) spoke to the U.K. Telegraph about her secrets for longevity. Those hoping for an obscure secret trick ("Always jump on one foot at exactly 3:43 a.m. while playing the banjo") are in for a disappointment. Okawa attributes her incredible life span to getting plenty of sleep, eating well, and taking a nap as needed.
She told the paper, "Eat and sleep and you will live a long time. You have to learn to relax."
Okawa became the world's oldest living person last year when the previous title holder, Jiroemon Kimura, passed away at the age of 116.

Blood Falls

This eerie and mysterious blood-red waterfall is located in remote Antarctica. The red color is partially the result of saltwater tainted with iron oxide, but the real mystery of these falls is what lives in the water. Water samples contain almost no oxygen, but at least 17 different types of alien-like microbes have been identified slithering around in the blood-like water. Scientists surmise that they survive via a metabolic process never observed in nature that utilizes sulfate as a respiratory catalyst with ferric ions, metabolizing trace levels of ancient organic matter trapped underneath Antarctica's vast glaciers.

Giant virus more than 30,000 years old in Siberia was dig up by scientists

Scientists have unearthed a giant virus more than 30,000 years old from the frozen soil in a remote region of Siberia.

The ancient virus, named Pithovirus sibericum, infects amoebas, not humans or animals.

It survived in the Siberian ice from a period when woolly mammoths and saber-tooth cats roamed the earth.

Scientists discover another cause of bee deaths, and it's really bad news

The researchers behind that study in PLOS ONE -- Jeffery S. Pettis, Elinor M. Lichtenberg, Michael Andree, Jennie Stitzinger, Robyn Rose, Dennis vanEngelsdorp -- collected pollen from hives on the east coast, including cranberry and watermelon crops, and fed it to healthy bees. Those bees had a serious decline in their ability to resist a parasite that causes Colony Collapse Disorder. The pollen they were fed had an average of nine different pesticides and fungicides, though one sample of pollen contained a deadly brew of 21 different chemicals. Further, the researchers discovered that bees that ate pollen with fungicides were three times more likely to be infected by the parasite.

'I'm not afraid to die,' says man who will jump off Mount Everest in his wing-suit

The star of the National Geographic television show "Adventure Wanted" learned the effect the thin air at that height would have on his summit jump.
"I thought I would fall out of the sky a little bit," he said. "In fact what I did was fly faster and further than I could have in that thicker air (at lower altitudes)."

When he flies in May, he expects to reach speeds of 150 mph during the 10,000-foot dive to base camp.
Wingsuit flier dies after cliff crash horror
"I never saw myself as a very gifted athlete," said Ogwyn, who was raised in Louisiana. "I do have a very high threshold for pain and suffering at very high altitudes."
He said it's important to win the mental battle. What's in your head and heart are more important than what's in your arms or legs, he said.
The Discovery Channel, which televised Nik Wallenda's tight rope walk over the Grand Canyon last year and Felix Baumgartner's jump from the edge of space in 2012, has said it will show Ogwyn's jump live, though no firm date has been set.
Ogwyn said he will reach the summit then change into his suit and put on his helmet.
He'll take three or four steps.

NASA images from space show North Korea shrouded in darkness

The space agency, which turned the images into a timelapse video, says city lights at night are a good indicator of the relative affluence of cities.

Looking at the images, it's hardly a surprise that energy use is dramatically different on either side of the 38th parallel. In South Korea, per capita power consumption is 10,162 kilowatt hours while in North Korea the figure is 739 kilowatt hours, according to World Bank data.

Dead Mississippi man begins breathing in embalming room

"There was no pulse. He was lifeless," Howard said.
The coroner completed his paperwork, placed Williams in a body bag and transported him to the funeral home, he said. There, something strange happened: The body bag moved.
"We got him into the embalming room and we noticed his legs beginning to move, like kicking," Howard said. "He also began to do a little breathing."
They immediately called an ambulance. Paramedics arrived and hooked Williams up to monitors. Sure enough, he had a heartbeat, so they transported him to the Holmes County Hospital and Clinics.
"They were in shock. I was in shock. I think everybody at the hospital was in shock," Howard said.
Howard is an elected official and not a doctor. More than 1,500 counties in the United States elect coroners and most don't require medical degrees.
